The tournament is divided into five rounds and from the second round on, players must win each match to progress to the next. LEGO Cup Mode pits players against other teams in a round-robin elimination. Both a single-player and a multiplayer collaborative effort can be exerted in Story Mode. As play progresses, members of defeated teams become available to add to the players' own rosters. The Brisckster soon steals the trophy, however, and Story Mode continues as players compete against other teams in an effort to retrieve it. If successful, a trophy will be presented to the player. Story Mode begins with players qualifying for races in hopes of ultimately winning the LEGO cup. With fields in different zones ranging from medieval castles to the planet Mars, one or two players can choose from a variety of options for gameplay. They can also choose to play in Exhibition or LEGO Cup Mode, against 32 teams from different countries. The game reintroduces the Brickster, and players can eventually take the field against him and his henchmen, the Bricksterbots, in Story Mode.
